  • Description

Celestron's C5, 127mm spotting scope is so good that NASA chose it for many space shuttle missions! And here on Earth, it is a 5-inch (127mm) 1,250mm f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain optical system that's as suited to the outdoors as it is to outer space.

The Celestron C5 127mm Spotter is an ideal choice for the serious bird watcher, nature lover, or anyone who enjoys beautiful views, whether from home or in the field. At just 6 pounds in weight and 11 inches in length, this spotting scope is a completely portable visual and photographic instrument that performs well in any viewing location. And you can expand its capabilities with a wide variety of optional accessories.

Its 5-inch aperture allows it to outperform smaller-aperture spotting scopes easily. Offering more than 4.5 times the light-gathering ability of a 60mm spotting scope and nearly 2.5 times that of an 80mm scope, Celestron's C5 is the clear choice when raw power and brilliant, crisp views are required.
The C5 spotting scope is a wonderfully versatile instrument, and its near focus of approximately 20 feet allows you to observe plant life, wildlife, birds, or insects with ease. At the same time, the C5 can be used as an astronomical telescope. It even transforms into a high-performance, 1,250mm, f/10, telephoto lens.

Photography couldn't be easier, because the C5 was designed to be fully camera-adaptable. To take professional-quality shots with the C5, just attach an optional T-adapter and T-ring for your 35mm SLR camera to the back of the scope, and you're ready to shoot.

The C5 comes in its own soft-sided carrying case. A tripod adapter block on the C5's tube makes easy work of tripod mounting for viewing or photography.

Customer Q&A

  • Q1: Are there any plastic parts on this scope?

A: The body is fully aluminum cast. The front and back exterior sealing rings are the only plastic pieces on the Celestron C5 127mm Astronomy Spotting Scope.

  • Q2: I love this scopes compact size, and the price is amazing, but how well would this scope work for astronomy? how many extra items will I need to use it for astrophotography?

A: This would work very well for astronomy, all you would need is a tripod, and a nice set of eyepieces.  The eyepiece this comes with is 25mm, which you could use to look at the stars, but you would want something smaller for doing astrophotography.  Celestron makes a fantastic eyepiece and filter kit that would give you all your options (CELE209).  As for taking pictures, it all depends on the camera.  If you are using a small or medium digital camera, just get a Digiscoping Adapter.  If you are using a SLR camera, then you would look into getting a T-Ring Adapter as well as a T-Ring that would work for your camera.

  • Q3: I'm planning to buy the Celestron C5 127mm. My purpose is to pair it with my SLR camera so I could have better shots. My questions are: 1. Is the T-adapter standard for all camera types? 2. Is the T-mount standard for all camera types, or is there a specific T-mount per camera model? 3. Are those the only two accessories needed to pair the Celestron C5 127mm with a camera?

A: Yes.  You will only need those two pieces to begin astrophotography.  The T- adapter is a standard 1.25inch size that will fit on most current  telescopes.  The T-ring that attaches to your camera is going to have to fit the make and model of your camera.  T -rings are listed on our site by camera brand so they are easy to locate for you.  Once you have these two pieces, you are ready to thread them together on your telescope and begin taking pictures.

  • Q4: What optical coatings are on this scope?

A: The Celestron C5 127mm Astronomy Spotting Scope has the StarBright XLT coatings.
