Nikon 8x42 Monarch 3 Binoculars offer up Eco glass optics in a rugged yet beautiful waterproof and fogproof polycarbonate housing. With medium magnification and large from objectives, the Nikon 8x42 Monarch 3 Binoculars are a great choice for general use, birding, wildlife observations, or travel. Why? Because an 8x42 binocular, especially when combined with Nikon’s famous optics and heavy-duty quality build, offers enough light-gathering to illuminate objects in shadow or during dusk or dawn, and at a magnification that is easy to hand-hold for longer periods of time. Add waterproof and fogproof performance to the mix, and you can see why the Nikon 8x42 Monarch 3’s can enhance your enjoyment of life in just about any situation.
Nikon’s tried and true Eco glass
Nikon is one of the few optical companies that make their own glass, because they know that the quality of the glass directly relates to the quality of the instrument, be it binoculars, spotting scopes, or camera lenses. The high quality glass used in Nikon Monarch 3 binoculars is called Eco glass. It is made without any lead or arsenic, which is better for the environment, but it performs beautifully inside your Monarch 3 binoculars, providing bright, sharp images that are sure to please.
The Eco glass lenses are precision aligned and then fully multicoated with phase-correction High Reflective Silver-alloy Prism coatings for good color reproduction and high contrast.
Easy to use, easy to adjust to your unique vision
Not all of us have 20/20 vision, and Nikon took that fact into account when they designed the 8x42 Monarch 3 binoculars. The comfortable and innovative “turn and slide” rubber eye cups allow the user to adjust the eye relief to provide a clear field of view, even if he or she is an eyeglass wearer. Fold down the rubber eyecups if you wear glasses, and then adjust the eye cups until they click into the location that allows you to comfortably see the full field of view. This is a fast and easy process, and so even if you share your binoculars with others, changes can be made for each person in just a few seconds.
Dioptric adjustment is easily achieved by turning the knurled ring right below the right eyepiece until it lines up with the correct dioptric number on the index. The central focus knob is also easy to use and is placed in an intuitive position, allowing for natural hand movements to adjust focus “on the fly.”
Take your Nikon Monarch 3 binoculars just about anywhere
There is a big difference between binoculars that are “weather resistant” or “splash-proof” and those with the designation of “waterproof”.
To truly make a pair of binoculars waterproof and fogproof, they must be placed in a special vacuum chamber and purged of all moisture, air and gaseous water molecules and then filled with nitrogen gas and sealed with O-rings. This procedure renders Monarch 3 binoculars waterproof, and they can be exposed to rain, snow, spills, and other liquid contact without worry. In fact, waterproof binoculars also keep out fine particles such as sand and dust. This is a great benefit if you like to go out to the desert or any place that is susceptible to above normal levels of dust.
When a pair of Nikon binoculars are waterproof, they are also fogproof. This means the inside of the lenses will not fog up when subjected to high humidity conditions, similar to the way our eyeglasses sometimes collect condensation on the surface closest to our skin when its humid outside. Because water droplets have been purged from the interior of the 8x42 Monarch 3 binoculars and not allowed to re-enter, they will also be safe from fungus growth. Fungus can be a real problem for owners of closed optical systems unless they live in the desert or use a dehumidifier religiously. With waterproof Monarch 3 binoculars from Nikon, you don’t have to worry—just go out and have fun!
The Monarch 3 binocular body is sleek and rugged. A quality rubber coating is applied over the lightweight frame, making the binocular easy to grip and hard to drop. Ergonomic curves guide your hands into their proper position for optimum viewing, allowing you to naturally find the focus knob. Rubber lens caps are attached to the binoculars just below the optics so they are super easy to slip on or off. The attached lens caps fold back neatly so they will stay out of your way without misplacing them!
